Jim Rugg and Jasen Lex
February 17, 2013 04:23 PM PST

Today Mike welcomes Jim Rugg and Jasen Lex to the show! Most everyone knows these guys for their cartoonist and illustration work, but now they've joined the esteemed ranks of podcasters, as well!
The first chunk of the talk focuses on Jim and Jasen's outlook on interviewing and journalism; for example, how editing can affect the portrayal of a subject.
Their show is called "Tell Me Something I Don't Know," and it appears twice weekly over at BoingBoing.net. Their first episode to appear on Boing Boing is an interview with co-founder of Fantagraphics, Gary Groth. The guys also have a year's worth of previous episodes available through iTunes.
This was a really great, light-hearted talk with some awesome, thoughtful dudes, and is well-worth the next hour of your life.

Mike Norton & Dennis Hopeless (w/ Steve Anderson)
January 31, 2013 06:57 PM PST

This past weekend, Greg made it over to Third Eye Comics in Annapolis for a signing by Mike Norton & Dennis Hopeless, and brought back this three-in-one interview episode for you, the listener! First, he talks THE ANSWER and REVIVAL with Mike, how he can zone out and be productive at the same time, and how many clones it takes to draw three books a month. Next, Dennis pitches him his two Marvel books, AVENGERS ARENA and CABLE & X-FORCE, as well as his independent work LOVESTRUCK and GEARHEAD, and explains how to write characters smarter than he is. And finally, the trifecta finishes with a look into the mind of Third Eye head honcho Steve Anderson, who tells us what shops HE admires, gives us a preview of the store's upcoming show & guest appearances, and lets slip the one concoction that can stop an interviewer in his tracks....bacon-flavored lollipops. You have to listen!

Ryan Estrada
January 16, 2013 05:10 PM PST

Hey everybody! Today Mike sits down for a chat with cartoonist/publisher Ryan Estrada. Ryan is about half way through his kickstarter campaign for The Whole Story winter collection. His model for The Whole Story is an interesting one: you pay what you like, and he loads you up with as many comics as possible. The latest collection includes his own work along with brand new material from folks like Ryan Andrews (Nothing is Forgotten), KC Green (Gunshow), and Jang Young. All complete stories, all available as retina-resolution PDFs, all DRM-free. Ryan's passed his goal and has moved on to some pretty awesome stretch goals.

Zander Cannon and Kevin Cannon
January 13, 2013 07:33 PM PST

This Wednesday sees the return of Zander Cannon and Kevin Cannon's Double Barrel magazine. Double Barrel is digital comics done right, with two ongoing stories and a ton of extra material ranging from short strips to how-to articles for budding cartoonists. The digital only magazine is available on pretty much any platform you'd want, including DRM free.

Kevin's Crater XV follows arctic explorer Army Shanks, who we last adventured with in the pages of Far Arden. Army, with his new beard, has found himself wrapped up in an Arctic space race and rescuing a Mysterious woman he swears he grew up with in an orphanage.

Zander's Heck starts off as we meet Hector, or Heck for short, right after his father dies. In tidying up his affairs, Heck discovers that his old man had an entrance to Hell down in the basement. Jump forward in time a bit and Heck, along with his newly mummified sidekick Elliot, is running a business delivering messages to folks spending eternity down below. It all sounds like a great fun adventure, until Heck and Elliot get down there and realize that they can never seem to remember how awful their trips into Hell are.
